Raymond Felton arrested Due to gun charges

Suddenly, Raymond Felton's on-court problems with the Knicks are the least of his worries.
The 29-year-old point guard was arrested on second, third and fourth-degree counts of criminal possession of a weapon (felonies) early Tuesday morning, according to New York police.

Sgt. Thomas Antonetti says Felton turned himself in at 12:50 a.m. and was questioned in the 20th Precinct in Manhattan.

Early reports alleged that Felton pointed a gun at a woman believed to be his girlfriend. The sergeant says the charges don't stem from him using the firearm in a menacing manner, but of possessing a gun he wasn't registered to have.
Antonetti says Felton is now under the purview of court system and will face a hearing sometime Tuesday.
The incident occurred after the Knicks' 110-108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks Monday night. New York tried, but failed to move Felton before last week's trade deadline — he's in the second year of a three-year, $10 million contract.
The ninth-year pro out of North Carolina is averaging a career-low 10.5 points per game during an injury-plagued season.
New York's notoriously strict gun laws don't bode well for the point guard. In 2009, then-Giants receiver Plaxico Burress accepted a plea deal after he was indicted on two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of second-degree reckless endangerment after he shot himself in the leg at a nightclub — resulting in two years in prison.
